Video and Profile of Joanna Lipper and “Girl From Zanzibar”
As a fellow in residence for academic years 2008-2010 Joanna Lipper will be developing a feature film adaptation of Roger King’s novel, “A Girl From Zanzibar” which tells the story of Marcella, a young woman of mixed race who emigrates from Zanzibar to London in the 1980's and gets caught in the web of a massive global banking scandal. After spending time in prison Marcella emigrates again--this time to the United States to teach Multicultural Studies at a small college.
